Student’s Favorite Meals and Their Affordable/Convenient Dupes

Student's Favorite Meals and Their Affordable/Convenient Dupes

Why are favorite foods so significant? They can be a bridge to someone’s favorite moments in time, something that reminds them of home or where they came from, or it might be as simple as the flavor sparks excitement within them. As many Tumwater high school students prepare to move onto the next chapter of their lives, whether that be going to college or moving out of the house, they may be wondering how they will enjoy some of their favorite meals on a budget or with little time/cooking experience. Luckily for them, many recipes can be transformed into a more affordable and easy alternative.

For those who are going to be moving into a dorm, it can be extra difficult to prepare meals, as there isn’t a full kitchen inside of dorm rooms. Here is a list of cooking tools and electronics that are allowed to be used in a dorm, these products would also be great for people living outside of on-campus housing.

  • Toaster oven
  • Microwave oven
  • Single burner
  • Slow cooker/crockpot
  • Mini fridge
  • Blender
  • Tea kettle
  • Egg cooker (you can boil eggs, poach them, and make omelets)

 Affordable and Easy Meal Alternatives:

Spaghetti is an anonymous Tumwater High School student’s favorite meal, this is their favorite meal because they’ve “always loved this meal!”. After high school, they plan “to go to a four-year college and become a chef.”

Another meal beloved by an anonymous Tumwater High School student is teriyaki chicken stir-fry. They said that this is their favorite meal “because this is one of the only meals that I get to make with my father. My father and I do a lot of things together, but cooking is not one of them. So, being able to cook this meal with him makes me happy.” After high school, they plan “to become an RN and join the United States Air Force. I have always wanted to be an RN because I feel as if they make more of a difference than doctors do, and I have always wanted to serve my country believing that the United States Air Force is the best way to do both.”

Shrimp scampi is another meal favored by an anonymous Tumwater High School student. They enjoy this meal because “it was the main thing we used to eat when I went to my grandparents’ when I was young.”. They plan on “going to a university and attuning for 5 years to get my architectural certification.” after high school.
